A Utah bride has been given an unforgettable lesson in the kindness of strangers after an anonymous shopper paid for her wedding dress.
Twenty-one-year-old student Liz Jensen had settled on her dream wedding dress at Elizabeth Cooper Designs’ pop-up wedding dress shop in her hometown of Provo. She had wandered into the store alone and tried on several dresses before finding the right one.
“I tried on the dress and I knew it was The One,” Liz told Deseret News. “It had everything I wanted. It was perfect.”
Though the dress was ideal, for the full-time student, the price of $US465 (£326) was a little steep, especially she had her university fees to pay – and she’d just returned from an overseas mission for her Church.
Knowing it was The One, however, she walked to the counter to pay and was told that one of the other shoppers had already paid for the dress.
“I said, ‘Are you sure?’ Because it’s just not the norm,” Carrie Ling, the bridal store owner, I’m still flabbergasted. I don’t know why she did it.”
Carrie Ling, who owns the bridal store, told the Deseret News that the generous stranger was also a bride-to-be who didn’t find her ideal dress, so she left behind enough money to pay for any dress in the store.
“She didn’t have a particular bride in mind and she asked me, ‘Which one of them could use the help?’ ”
A flabbergasted Elizabeth broke down in tears.
“Who pays for someone’s wedding dress?” she said. “It’s something I’ll never forget.”
