Grammy Award-winning superstar Beyonce is suing online store Feyonce, which specialises in engagement merchandise, for infringing her trademarked name.
Queen Bey’s legal team this week filed suit against the Texas-based maker of t-shirts, sweatshirts, tank tops and hoodies bearing the word Feyonce, as well as a coffee cup bearing the phrase “He put a ring on it,” which appears to be a reference to Beyonce’s 2008 hit Single Ladies (Put A Ring on It).
The lawsuit, Knowles-Carter et al v. MAURICE et al., which seeks unspecified damages, reads: “Defendants adopted the Feyonce mark to call to mind Beyonce and her famous song. Defendants’ conduct described herein is intentional, fraudulent, malicious, willful and wanton.”
According to TMZ, in early 2015, Beyonce took umbrage with a seller on craft marketplace Etsy who was selling mugs using the word Feyonce. Shortly after a complaint was made, the offending cups were no longer available.
