All the glamour, fun and frivolity of the 1920s was on show at Laurette Chetty and James McLoughlin’s modern Gatsby wedding.
“We wanted to steer clear from the traditional kind of wedding and rather wanted a sleek and sexy type of event where our loved ones could get glam but still have heaps of fun,” Laurette says.
“I’m not an overly girly type of girl and stick to a colour palette of black, white and gold in my décor and fashion choices, so I knew it was the perfect colour scheme for our wedding.”
With these colours in mind Laurette, 27, and James, 24, chose modern and minimalist Perth venue Linton & Kay Art Gallery for their ceremony on September 20, 2014.
“Guests were treated to divine red velvet and vanilla gold foiled cupcakes and sipped on J-L personalised champagne, while acoustic versions of our favourite tunes played,” Laurette recalls.
The reception for 120 guests followed at Mosmans Restaurant.
“I was very specific with my stylist that we didn’t want the venue to look ‘too wedding like’ and instead wanted it to look a super sleek and sophisticated dinner party,” Laurette says.
The loved-up pair, who met at an Australia Day barbecue in 2010, described their day as unbeatable.
“Our day was perfect to us,” Laurette says.

“I wanted my bridesmaids to look one word – SEXY,” smiles Laurette.
A Festival of Flowers created the elegant white and ivory bouquets.
Laurette’s stunning Loui Col gown featured a removable jacket.
“The lads looked dapper in matching tuxedos from Hallestein Bros, which were environmentally friendly,” says Laurette.
Laurette’s smoky look was achieved with the artistic talents of Creations by Kassy.
Explains Laurette, “We had long tables to keep it modern and they were decked out with gold charger plates, black tuxedo napkins and black champagne glasses.”
