Music and art lovers Jo Hawkins and Rob Harding chose a venue close to their hearts for their modern craft wedding.
“The Royal Welsh was the starting point for our ideas – a beautiful modern building with all of the creative links to music and theatre that are perfect for us (Rob is an actor and sings in an a cappella group and I love theatre, music and dance),” Jo, 30, explains.
Jo and Rob, 31, also used their creativity to make as many things for the big day as possible – from the favours to centrepieces.
“I put an emphasis on patterns, paper and books, another of my loves!” says Jo.
The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff hosted the couple’s ceremony and reception on July 23, 2016, celebrated with 130 friends and family.
“I think that the look and the feel was something a bit different, full of colour and music,” Jo says of the celebrations full of home-made gems.
“For me, the music was what made it – with our amazing friends I bet it was the best show on in Cardiff that day as well as being our best day ever.”

Beautiful bride Jo wore her mother’s wedding dress from the 1970s and carried a modern bridal bouquet full of orange, blue and white tones that were a theme throughout the wedding.
Mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses provided an eclectic touch to the wedding styling.
The couple first met through their work and were together for six years before Rob popped the question at Trafalgar Square – a special place for the pair.
Crafty bride Jo was hard at work in the lead-up to the big day making origami lillies and wrapping second-hand books to decorate the tables.
