Some people know true love when they find it and will endure any hardship to stay together.
That includes a long-distance relationship. Megan Wheatley, 26, and Josh Hingst, 35, fell in love while Megan was studying in the US. Josh was a Nebraska local so when Megan headed home to Perth pursue her track-and-field career, they made the decision to stay a couple.
“For almost 18 months we endured a 12-hour time difference and the distance apart,” explains Megan. “Josh was so unbelievably supportive of my dreams and encouraged me to keep training despite the fact that this would mean that we would be apart.”
But when that time came to an end the couple both moved to Philadelphia, as Josh had been offered a job coaching NFL.
They made a new home together and later that year Megan returned to Perth for a family gathering in King’s Park. Little did she know, Josh was waiting around the corner.
“Josh had flown from Philly to Perth to propose!” she says.
They were married at their rustic city wedding on February 15, 2014 in Perth. “I always knew that my wedding would be under the stars on a hot summer’s night, so hosting the reception on the patio of Lamont’s Bishops House was an easy choice for us,” smiles Megan.
Megan wore a Pnina Tornai gown from New York.
“In the end everything surpassed my expectations and came together more beautifully than I envisioned,” says Megan of planning a wedding internationally.
“We flew in our good friend and pastor from L.A. and he officiated a very emotional ceremony for us,” recalls Megan. Ninety five guests were invited.
