Due to their simplicity, many jewellers don’t seem to spend time thinking about wedding rings but I feel that they bring together everything I care about when working metal.
I always try to create pieces of metal that can become important to someone and wedding rings are the height of this. The particular challenge raised by wedding rings is that they usually need to be simple, durable and comfortable in ways that a lot of other jewellery doesn’t have to be. How can something so simple say so much? Highly elegant jewellery, as with fashion, often hints at the wearer having the luxury to put their appearance before their ability to do anything hands on. This is often nice to work with in an engagement ring, but in my view wedding rings should be able to cope with any amount of DIY, whilst still being beautiful.
Richard made our wedding rings, and it was a brilliant experience. He listened really carefully to our thoughts and designed rings with and for us that were personal and unusual without being at all gimmicky. Richard makes his own golds (his studio wouldn't be out of place in middle earth) so we could choose from all sorts of mixtures. It was fab to watch him draw the rings on paper in front of us and then come back to see them as works in progress! Richard also made me a beautiful silver pin for my kilt sash that matches my husband's wedding ring. We couldn't recommend the whole experience more highly.
Richard Chown designed our completely bespoke wedding rings and we could not have been happier, he did such a fantastic job! We had a design in mind yet gave him creative way to do what he does best. Our two rings were created in matching union, though hers a little more subtle as we had both wanted.
Richard went through all the metals with us and provided a very relaxed approach and no hard sell was put on us. There was also opportunity to try the wax models on throughout the process and if we required any changes he was able to amend. We were really surprised by the speed of design from paper to creation which only took 6-7 weeks. Richard was even able to melt down older jewellery which belonged to my grandmother into a beautiful bracelet to wear at the wedding, this was very sentimental and special to us. Highly recommend.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the beautiful eternity ring you made me. It fits the other two perfectly and is exactly what I wanted (without really knowing!)
