A Welsh bride who got a little too carried away on her hen’s night has ended up breaking both wrists – just 10 days before her big day.
Elin Russell-Hughes, from Anglesey, North Wales, was enjoying her hen’s weekend celebrations when a truly 21st century disaster occurred: she broke her wrists while ‘twerking’ on the dance floor!
Twerking, a favourite dance move of Nicky Minaj and Miley Cyrus, involves squatting low to the floor and shaking your hips in a vigorous bouncing motion. Elin’s rendition must have been thoroughly ‘vigorous’ because we simply cannot figure out how she managed to break her wrists – while shaking her booty!
Elin, 33, and fiance Gareth Wyn Williams, 45, had spent months planning their New York elopement, so even two broken wrists wasn’t going to stop their nuptials going ahead.
Elin, who works for fashion brand Monsoon, told the Wales Online newspaper, “My friends threw me a hen weekend to remember – because we were planning to get married alone in New York.
“But on the first night of the hen do it happened. I had a twerking accident which resulted in me breaking both my wrists.”
The hen’s party disaster took place just 10 days before the wedding resulting in a tearful Elin who said, “After a good cry over a bottle of gin and the initial panic was that I wouldn’t be able to fly I decided that a couple of broken bones weren’t going to stop me.
In keeping with bridal tradition, Elin opted to have her casts made in blue to tick the ‘something blue’ box, and purchased ivory cast covers to wear over her blue plasters for the big day.
Elin has since told Wales Online she “won’t be twerking anytime soon.”
