Awesome wedding millinery – 10 styles

Bridal headpieces. Shut the front door.

Unless you’re a regular at the race track, you’re probably not familiar with the growing range of accessories you can parade atop your cranium. Though traditionally referring to hats, we’re extending the definition of millinery to bring you 10 other adornments to wear in your hair or on your head for your walk down the aisle.

1. Flower crown
Take your pick of fresh blooms or faux florals and have a custom made flower crown created to compliment your wedding theme and dress.

2. Barrettes & bobby bling
Pearls, jewels, rhinestone, diamonds and diamantes; there’s no limit to the kind of clips and bobby pin bling you can wear in your hair – and you’ll definitely use them again!

3. Fascinators
A fascintor adds 3D appeal to a tightly tamed up-do. If your wedding dress is detailed, multi-layered or high-collared, opt for a simple arrangement. If it’s modest and uncomplicated, you can afford to splash out on a show-stopping hairpiece.

4. Feather crown
Where do we even begin with this? Would we actually wear it? Undecided. But that doesn’t detract from the fact that it is an undeniably awesome statement piece.

5. Veil
High neckline? Balance it with a shorter veil. Next on the length scale are elbow, waist, fingertip, knee, floor, chapel and cathedral. The latter is hardly practical, but it’s your wedding day, so why do things in halves?

6. Cloche
So French, so chic, so 1920s. Who could resist the old-world charm of a flapper-inspired cloche? This classic little number speaks for itself.

7. Hair combs
A silver jewel hair comb with pearls and crystals is a timeless piece that can be used again for dressy occasions, or placed in safe keeping as a family heirloom to be handed down to future generations of brides.

8. Tiaras
If there’s one day you really can feel – and act – like a princess, it’s your wedding day! Try a renaissance or medievel tiara for something a little less mainstream.
