When Mississippi photographer Chase Richardson slipped while shooting a bridal party’s wedding photos, he couldn’t have imagined it would result in one of the most memorable shots of his career – but it did.
The photo, which shows a rather startled bridal party watching him fall, was taken during a June wedding, after a particularly rainy morning. Everything was wet and, while shooting the bridal party shots, he slipped on the pavement, but according to the groom, got right back up and continued shooting.
Thankfully, Chase wasn’t hurt, but he didn’t even know he’d snapped the one-off photo until well after the wedding when he was processing the photographs from the day.
Though Chase did share the photograph on Instagram at the time, it wasn’t until last week, when US talk show host Jimmy Fallon featured the photograph as part of his regular #WeddingFail section, that it went viral.
Chase’s original Instagram post was accompanied by the caption, “So there was this one wedding this summer where I managed to slip in a puddle of water while photographing the whole wedding party,” the photographer captioned his shot.”
Luckily my instinct told me that this moment needed to be captured, hence this photo. They’re probably going to put this on their mantle.”
