British groom Christopher Richards was so impressed by his wedding venue that he robbed it.
Richards, 25, and one of his groomsmen, George Taylor, returned to the venue, The Bacup Hub, six months after his glamorous wedding reception to loot its alcohol-laden bar and vandalise the venue.
The pair stole nearly than $31,000 worth of beer, wine, spirits and champagne, hauling away hundreds of bottle of alcohol in the dead of night, and caused about $40,000 worth of damage.
Richards had married Bridie Sparks, 24, six months earlier, having celebrated their nuptials with a luxury champagne buffet at The Bacup Hub in Lancashire, England.
The club’s owner, Catherine Murphy, told The Daily Mail that she had charged the newlyweds half-price for the service since the groom, a labourer, was unemployed.
Murphy says she charged the couple just $1650 for the entire day’s celebrations, including champagne, a chocolate fountain and even a bouncy castle. Her usual fee for the same service is $3700.
“I’ve done the same for a few people and tried to bring some community spirit back to the area, which is quite impoverished,’ Murphy told The Daily Mail. ‘But I would do the same again – I’m just that kind of person.
The Burnley Crown Court this week heard that Richards and Taylor broke into the club and, after robbing hundreds of bottles of alcohol, proceeded to smash mirrors, tiles, cupboards, CCTV cameras and the venue’s glasses.
The pair were only caught after images from the CCTV footage appeared in a local paper and they were recognised.
Richards’ new bride said she was standing by her man, saying, “I love him. Nobody’s perfect.”
