Outdoor Weddings: The Pros And Cons You Need To Know

Thinking of hosting a wedding beneath the stars? Here’s a few of the pros and cons outdoor weddings bring up.

Pros

Celebrate beneath the stars

If you are hoping to create a truly magical event, a wedding beneath the stars is the best way to go.

String up hundreds of fairy lights, have outdoor fire pits and heaters and a large dance floor – guests will love it!

Good weather = unforgettable event

If the weather is the perfect temperature, your outdoor wedding has the potential to be one to remember for many years to come.

You can tie the knot at a beautiful garden ceremony, host pre-function drinks and canapés complete with giant Jenga and croquet, and host your reception beneath the stars. Bliss.

Unique venue possibilities

Having an outdoor wedding means you won’t be constricted by venue possibilities and facilities.

You can host in a backyard, a field or out in the sticks if you really want to. Just make sure you have organise all the facilities the site might need: music, toilets, lights, dance floor, mobile catering options etc.

Festival weddings

Let’s face it, festival weddings are the coolest thing since interactive mirror photo booths.

The unlimited lawn space means lawn games, bouncy castles, food trucks, the best tunes and tipi wedding receptions.

Awesome!

Cons

You are exposed to the elements

Unfortunately, hosting an outdoor wedding makes you vulnerable to Mother Nature.

If it happens to rain heavily on the night, it might change the entire outdoor experience.

To prepare for the weather’s unpredictability, make sure your reception is undercover in a marquee or tipi, and have plenty of umbrellas, wellingtons, blankets and raincoats to go around.

Limited facilities

Hosting your wedding in a backyard or a field might sound like an awesome idea, but you’ll need all the facilities a venue offers to make it possible, and they don’t come cheaply.

For instance, you’ll need to hire portaloos, mobile catering, power and lighting facilities, music, and all the reception decor items such as tables, chairs, plates, cutlery etc. Keep these items in mind when choosing to host an outdoor wedding – with all the additional facilities your field wedding may end up costing more than a function centre.
