Kate's wedding dress mannequin "horrid": Queen

Exhibition curator Caroline de Guitaut tends to Kate Middleton’s wedding dress which has gone on display at Buckingham Palace

Queen Elizabeth has described the headless mannequin displaying Kate Middleton’s wedding dress as “horrid”.

The new Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress has gone on display at Buckingham Palace and is the centrepiece of the palace’s annual open house. The Queen, however, is obviously not so impressed.

“It’s horrid, isn’t it? Horrible,” Her Majesty was heard to say within earshot of the television cameras as she previewed the ghostly wedding-dress dummy late last month.

The Palace is hoping visitors won’t see it that way. For £17.50, they can parade past Kate’s now famous dress, until October 3. At least 500,000 people from across the globe are expected to shuffle through.

The tour weaves through the throne room, ballroom and dining room, and into the gardens past Her Majesty’s private pond.

Gorgeous, but just a little bit creepy, non?

Also on display is the top layer of Kate’s wedding cake, the diamond acorn earrings gifted to her by her parents, the Cartier Halo tiara loaned to her by the Queen, as well as a silk flower replica of her bridal bouquet.
