June:

Rachel Weisz and Daniel CraigRachel Weisz and Daniel Craig

♥ Mummy actress Rachel Weisz married Daniel Craig aka James Bond  in New York after a whirlwind six-month courtship. The wedding ceremony was so secret only four guests are thought to have attended, including Henry (Rachel’s four-year-old son) and Ella (Craig’s 18-year-old daughter), as well as two friends of the couple.

♥ British songbird Lily Allen married Sam Cooper, a house designer, in a picturesque church in Gloucestershire, England.

The couple made a surprise announcement at the wedding – that they were several months pregnant! Lily changed her Twitter handle from lilyroseallen to MrsLRCooper almost immediately after her big day.

July:

♥ A far less fussy affair than that of Prince William to Kate was the wedding of his cousin Zara Phillips (thirteenth in line to the throne) to England rugby player Mike Tindall.

The wedding took place in Scotland and was a small, simple and very private affair.

♥ Monaco held three days of royal wedding festivities when Prince Albert II (son of Princess Grace Kelly) wed former Olympian swimmer Charlene Wittstock. The new Princess, 33, looked elegant in an Armani gown cut from 130 metres of silk and studded with 40,000 crystals.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo

♥ Former boy band star Nick Lachey married Vanessa Minnillo on Necker Island, owned by Sir Richard Branson. “I wanted to be in that long traditional wedding gown with heels and I wanted my groom in a tux and shoes and not barefoot on the beach,” the bride told People magazine. She wore a two-piece Monique Lhuillier and the couple celebrated the event over four days with just 35 guests present.

♥ Another July wedding was that of supermodel Kate Moss who married rocker Jamie Hince surrounded by 15 bridesmaids, including her eight-year-old daughter, Lila Grace.

The couple tied the knot in a village church in the Cotswolds, UK. Kate, 37, wore a vintage-inspired floor-length ivory dress featuring gold leaf embroidery and rhinestones.

August:
♥ Sadly, reality TV star Kim Kardashian marriage to sportsman Kris Humphries lasted just 72 days. The couple’s much hyped black-and-white-themed nuptials are estimated to have cost upwards of $18 million and were filmed for a four-hour E! television special.

September:
♥ Talk about a serious power couple. Lauren Bush (niece and granddaughter of, respectively, former US president George W. Bush and George Bush) married David Lauren, son of fashion designer Ralph Lauren at the Lauren family’s 17,000-acre Colorado ranch in August.

Naturally, the bride wore a gown designed by her famous father-in-law, and not just any gown. It was a long-sleeved, high-necked ivory gown embellished with crystals, lace and pearls that took about 3000 hours to be hand embroidered onto the gown.

October:
♥ More than 50,000 citizens of the Bhutan, a land-locked nation in South-East Asia, turned out to see King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck wed Ashi Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, an airline pilot’s daughter. The bride wore a traditional Kira, which is thought to have taken three years to weave.

♥ There was a fiesta and many a barefoot jig at the Spanish nuptials of the 85-year-old Duchess of Alba and 61-year-old “commoner” Alfonso Diez. According to the Guiness Book of World Records, the Duchess of Alba has more aristocratic titles than anyone else and, in order to marry Alfonso, it is said she gave up a very large chunk of her wealth, estimated at being somewhere between $830 million and $4.8 billion.

Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell

♥ It was a case of no more lonely nights for Beatles’ legend Sir Paul McCartney when he wed American heiress Nancy Shevell at The Old Marylebone Town Hall, the same place he married his first wife, Linda in 1969. It was a simple, intimate affair that lasted just one hour and ten minutes, and cost Britain’s first pop billionaire a mere £1,540.

December:
♥ Irish singer Sinead O’Conner wed for the fourth time on her 45th birthday. Her latest hubby, Barry Herridge, is a 38-year-old therapist she met online just three months beforehand. They married in Las Vegas in what Sinead described as her “absolute dream wedding ceremony”.

♥ X Factor judge Natalie Bassinghtwaighte married long-term partner Cameron McGlinchey, the former drummer in her band, The Rogue Traders.

The couple’s -month-old daughter Harper was among the guests and the couple honeymooned on Kangaroo Island.

Shortly before the wedding, Nat, who has been married once before, said, ‘Cam is my everything, I am in the happiest place that I’ve ever been in my life and I can’t wait to marry the man of my dreams.’
