While splayed out on the sofa rubbing her belly after a big steak on her 30th birthday, a marriage proposal was the last thing on Yomi Adegbaju’s mind.
After 10 years of dating, Nick Stafford dropped down to one knee and with Yomi’s great-grandmother’s 120-year-old diamond and sapphire ring, asked Yomi, now 31, to marry him.
“I’d rather not repeat my first two words, but the third word was yes!” laughs Yomi.
When it came to wedding planning, their priorities lay in staying true to themselves. “Anyone who has met us knows we are not flashy and pretty laid back. That’s what we wanted our wedding to reflect and I think we achieved that,” Yomi says. “We didn’t want to spend a crazy amount of money on one day, but we wanted everyone to have a good time.”
On April 7, 2017 the Bristol pair wed before 75 guests at their relaxed seaside wedding held at Torre Abbey in England’s South West.
“It sounds super lame but I genuinely would not change a thing. If I had to say one thing, I wish the day lasted longer,” says Yomi. “We kept it simple and true to ourselves… Sometimes that’s all you need.”

Yomi accessorised her beaded white dress with traditional Nigerian coral beads wrapped around her wrist.
Yomi asked her bridesmaids to wear whatever they felt most themselves in as long as the dresses were navy blue. “My bridesmaids have such different styles and I wanted that to show.”
Like the bridesmaids, Nick’s groomsmen wore whatever they were comfortable in, on the condition the suits were grey.
Apart from the tables and the fairy lights on the ceiling, Yomi and Nick let their venue speak for itself.
“We had one of the best days of our lives and our guests still talk about what an amazing day it was.”
