A rustic autumnal celebration at The Lancrigg for Jenny and James

For many couples we see, the Lake District is more than just a scenic backdrop. Jenny and James, who met while studying Physics at university, spent years navigating a long distance relationship before finally making the Lakes their permanent home. When it came time to wed in November 2025, they knew their celebration had to feel authentically Cumbrian.

The search for a venue ended the moment they stepped onto the grounds of The Lancrigg in Grasmere. Even on a misty, atmospheric day, the couple was blown away by the fellside views. Jenny noted that they wanted a venue that felt like the heart of the Lake District, and the low cloud only added to the charm. The venue also offered exclusive hire, allowing their fifty guests to stay within 100 metres of the celebration for the entire weekend.

The day began with a bracing morning swim in Grasmere for James and eighteen friends while Jenny and her bridesmaids enjoyed mimosas in The Lancrigg’s lounge. A magical moment followed in the bridal suite when a stunning orange butterfly appeared just as the sun broke through the clouds.

The couple shared personal vows in the barn, joined by their dog, Eddie, who stole the show with a few well timed barks. Jenny wore a Lillian West gown with autumnal leaf appliqués before swapping her heels for Lanx boots to explore the grounds.

Food was a priority for the relaxed, homely vibe the couple envisioned. Bespoke Catering served hearty steak and cheese pies followed by apple crumble, which guests loved. To cap off the night, the couple surprised guests during their first dance by transitioning from a slow acoustic track into a high energy performance of I Believe in a Thing Called Love.
