Decorating your wedding venue

When it comes to wedding decorations, you most likely have the dining tables organised and have thought about the flowers and candles for the wedding ceremony, but there are plenty of other decorative elements you might have overlooked. Here are a few ideas on decorating your wedding venue as a whole.

Decorate the ceiling

If the ceiling of your venue isn’t entirely attractive, hanging flower arrangements or branch canopies can create a natural feel. Draping fabric across the ceiling isn’t all that difficult, or you could include paper lanterns, hanging bird cages, or even borrowed chandeliers. Decorating your ceiling will give you venue that wow factor, especially if the ceiling is quite high.

Make your chairs pretty

If you’re not too happy about the chairs provided by the venue, just ask your venue to remove the chairs and hire some that you prefer. Wrought iron, or lovely white wood are both favourite styles of wedding chair, even though your guests might need something a bit more comfortable if you are organising a long wedding breakfast. Alternatively hide the venue’s chairs under chair covers and then accessorise to suit your theme. Chairs might not seem like the most essential aspect of your wedding venue, but they can be a big factor in your overall theme.

Use subtle lighting

Atmospheric lighting can be crucial to an indoor winter or evening wedding, so if your venue just provides harsh overhead lights try to find fairy lights, lamps, candles, and starlit backdrops to provide a romantic glow. You can even light your floral arrangements with votive candles, or with LED lights in coloured gel glass vases. Many couples visit their wedding venues on a sunny summer day and don’t remember to check out what the lighting is like.

Make an entrance

Add some form of lighting to mark your entrance whether you want romantic hanging lanterns, dramatic flaming torches, or twinkly fairy lights. Place potted plants or trees on either side of the entrance and have a few flower arrangements or coloured posters inside the hallway to keep up the great impression as your guests arrive. The entrance to your venue is going to be the first thing your guests notice, and it will make a statement about what to look forward to from the rest of your wedding so be grandiose and bold in your entrance decorations.

Give a twist to your bar

If the bar area at your venue is a bit empty, try hiring an old time juke box, a picture booth, or any other items that will add fun and entertainment, and complement your theme. Find colourful garlands or streamers that can be kept out of the way. Floral arrangements can work well in the bar, just ensure they don’t disturb the bar staff. Ensure there is some cosy seating in the bar for guests to relax on. The chances are some of your guests will spend quite a bit of time in the bar so you will want to create as attractive a look to it as you can.

Accessories for the bathroom

In the venue bathrooms it’s a great idea to add some scented soaps in the same fragrance as your wedding perfume, a few pretty hand lotions, and some soft luxurious guest towels, together with a couple of miniature flower arrangements. While your male guests most likely won’t care, the girls at your special day will be really touched if you add some thoughtful touches to the ladies bathroom.

Create a unified look

If your wedding will take place across a number of different rooms ensure the corridors or walkways that join these rooms keep up your wedding theme. Simple potted plants or pictures might be sufficient, but if your guests are likely to get lost you may want to consider creating a few fun signs, using your wedding style and colour scheme, to ensure they know where they are headed.
