It was always going to be elegant and sophisticated, with a sweet, sentimental centre.
If you’re a lover of sweets like Edinburgh bride Alexandrea Finlayson is, then what could be a more perfect proposal than with your favourite treats at Christmas time? Hiding them around the tree might seem like the same old tradition, but in this case groom Joseph Dunbar had more than confectionery on his mind.
“On Christmas morning we opened all of our presents and then he said, ‘You have to find your sweetie,’" remembers Alexandrea. "I searched and searched and couldn’t see anything and there is was, right at the top. My beautiful engagement ring.”
It couldn’t have come at a better time for the Christmas-loving bride, 28, who went on to marry 31-year-old Joseph on April 24, 2015.
Sixty guests gathered at Glencorse House in Glencorse, Scotland to celebrate. The pair exchanged vows in the venue’s chapel, The Kirk, followed by a marquee wedding reception adjoining the historical house.
Retro sweetie favours by The Sweetie Jar were dressed in ivory and duck-egg blue. “We love sweets and thought this was perfect as it symbolised us,” Alexandrea explains.
The venue was classically decorated with beautiful ivory, from flowers to candles, scattered among fishbowls and mirrors. Their love of all things sweet also paired quite nicely with the cake, with a Victoria sponge top layer, Mars Bar middle layer and red velvet bottom layer - all sweetly topped off with edible glitter and ‘Just Married’ bunting.
The couple enjoyed their honeymoon in Menorca.

The bride's uncle took care of the floral arrangements and also the styling of the marquee reception. "When I walked into the marquee I was completely blown away," says Alexandrea of the surprise.
Elegance truly was in the air, with the bride's beautiful Mori Lee wedding dress, supplied by Gwenne Wedding Services.
