A special song has been the soundtrack to Maria Hague and Shaun Buckham’s relationship – from their early years travelling to the proposal and finally walking down the aisle.
“I was proposed to during a live performance from members of one of our favourite bands, Oceansize. The song being played at the time was called The Frame and holds a special place in our hearts as it brings back memories of our travel experiences in New Zealand many years ago when the album was released. We also played this track as we walked back down the aisle together as the wedding ceremony ended,” Maria explains.
The Leeds couple met at university and were together for 15 years before Shaun popped the question.
The couple held their rustic city wedding at Leeds Town Hall in front of an intimate crowd of 40 friends and family on July 22, 2016.
The group then crossed the road for a prosecco toast at a nearby pub before a ride in a vintage bus to Temple Newsam Park (one of the couple’s favourite spots) for ice-cream and photos.
The reception followed in the function room at Brown Cow pub, which provided a moody and intimate space for the celebrations.
“Our wedding was quite simple, we made use of rustic decorations using hessian, burlap and lace bunting and summer seasonal flowers,” Maria says.
“I can honestly say the whole day surpassed even our expectations it was so wonderful and we loved every minute of it.”

A vintage bus provided the perfect wedding transport for the celebrations.
The couple’s then nine-month-old daughter made her way down the aisle in a baby trike modified and decorated by the bride’s talented sister.
Maria says she wanted her wedding flowers to have a natural look. “We asked for small, simple, bohemian bouquets and to have the appearance of wild flowers gathered in a meadow and tied loosely with some string or hessian,” she says.
“The highlight of the whole day was the ceremony and the moment we recited our vows to each other,” Maria says.
A bus trip to the couple’s favourite park allowed them to get a happy snap of all the wedding guests.
A friend made the three-tier wedding cake, complete with bride and groom Totoro figures that pay homage to the couple’s love of Hayao Miyazaki films.
