Sophie and James’s country rustic wedding at UK’s most haunted hotel

When Sophie and her sister explored Ettington Park Hotel as a potential venue for her and James’s country rustic wedding, neither knew it was one of the most haunted hotels in the UK.

“There were lots of secret spiral staircases, beautiful rooms and scenery and rumoured ghosts,” recalls the bride.

Despite its eery history and several reported supernatural sightings, Sophie and James, both now 30, made the most of their day at Stratford upon Avon’s Ettington Park Hotel.

The pair married on July 21, 2017 with a ceremony among the ruins of the Park’s chapel and a reception in the Neo-Gothic mansion’s grand ballroom. 90 guests celebrated alongside the newlyweds during the day with an extra 40 joining in the evening.

Sophie and James credit their suppliers and the team at Ettington Park Hotel for making sure their day ran as smoothly as possible.

“It was a brilliant day. Two years have gone by already and we’re happy to be married. It all goes so quick.”

“We had a quick drive around in the car after we were just married … it was great to take some time to ourselves, talk excitedly about the morning and sip our champagne.”

James popped the question on Christmas Day in 2015.
