Because summer in the UK is unpredictable anyway, Rachel and Richard decided to celebrate a winter wedding which helped reduce costs.
But the couple, aged 32 and 31 respectively, were blessed with bright blue skies anyway. They married at The Yorkshire Wedding Barn with 110 guests on January 20, 2018. “We wanted our wedding to be something that reflected us, relaxed, fun and full of laughter,” explains the bride. “So instead of doing just one day, we decided to book our venue for three days.”
Rachel and Richard fell in love with the barn because they could do what they pleased with the space. “The beauty about our venue was that we were able to make the place our own; the venue allowed us to do what we liked so that the wedding was as personable as it could be,” Rachel smiles. “The day itself was absolutely perfect – we were so luckily that it had snowed the day before the wedding, so it was all nice and crispy white.”
Their photographer Joe Dodsworth captured the day in a documentary style, which received high praise from the bride. “The way Joe worked was to blend in throughout the day where he wouldn’t be noticed,” she says. “We liked that for our ‘formal’ shots we wouldn’t be spending a lot of the day taking posed photos.”

“I had tried on what felt like a 100 dresses,” Rachel recalls, before finding ‘the one’ at Kathryn Trueman.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better ring,” Rachel said of her husband’s engagement choice.
“The only reminder I could give anyone is remember the day is about celebrating your relationship and entering into a wonderful marriage,” Rachel says for other brides.
“The weekend was perfect, relaxed, fun and memorable,” smiles the bride.
