Polly and Alex brought their family and friends to the scene of many happy holidays to celebrate their coastal barn wedding.
“I knew I wanted to get married in Norfolk,” bride Polly, 30, says of their October 7, 2017 celebrations.
“I grew up visiting Norfolk for my holidays, and Alex and I both love it up there. We love to spend our days walking, sailing, exploring the amazing countryside, having mini-adventures and fun with our friends and family.”
Polly and Alex, 32, say they wanted their coastal barn wedding to be like an extension of those holidays. “We wanted it to feel like a seaside adventure,” Polly says.
The London couple picked the beautiful Sussex Barn in Burnham Market for their ceremony and reception, celebrated with 120 guests.
“The barn is a real blank canvas that you can decorate as much or as little as you want,” Polly says. “We filled the whole place with greenery – handmade boughs over the doorways, buckets of foliage and jam jars of eucalyptus.”
Family and friends also got on board to help, and Polly says these heartfelt touches are what made the day most special.
“We both have a lot family and friends who are brilliant singers and unbeknownst to us, Alex’s aunty had organised a secret choir who surprised us on the day by singing You Send Me by Sam Cooke. It was so moving,” she says.

Polly’s gown from Needle and Thread was two-piece with a lace mid-sleeve top and tulle skirt.
One of Polly’s bridesmaids, of Inku Design, helped create the couple’s bespoke wedding stationery. “She also created an ‘Adventure Guide’ as our programmes for the day filled with facts and quizzes and more illustrations. It really helped show all our guests who had travelled from all over the UK, why this place was important to us, and why we wanted them all there on the start of our own adventure,” the bride says.
With the blue colour palette in mind, Alex headed over to Hawes and Curtis for his suit, vest and tie.
Photographer Rob Dodsworth says, “This wedding took place on what was a very wet and windy dat but it didn’t stop the couple, or the wedding guests from having fun. I always recommend to my couples to have a wet weather plan.”
Alex’s mum and sister made three wedding cakes for the couple. “Chocolate, lemon, and blackberry and apple; decorated with gold leaf and chocolate truffles,” describes Polly.
Polly advises future couples to try not to worry too much when planning their wedding. “And take some time out during the day to be together,” she says.
