While hints of engagement were initially thrown around, Jolene and Robert’s priorities changed when Jolene’s grandparents were both diagnosed with cancer.
“Things went down hill very fast, all thoughts of Rob proposing were forgotten,” recalls Jolene, 27.
Despite this, Robert, 28, popped the question after whisking Jolene away on a surprise trip to Winchester.
“It was a special moment when Rob and I visited my very unwell grandma and told her the good news. She managed to whisper ‘Congratulations’ – that meant the world to me.”
By the time of the November 25, 2017 rustic country wedding, the pair had sadly lost all but one grandparent.
“At the wedding we made sure Rob’s Nan was on the top table and our wedding favours meant something,” Jolene says of their choice to donate to Cancer Research UK in lieu of traditional favours.
The pair wed at St Peter’s Church in Wisborough Green before returning to Surrey Hill venue Gate Street Barn for a sit-down meal with 120 of their guests. Later, 60 more joined the celebrations lasting well into the night.

Premier Carriage provided a Rolls Royce Phantom for Jolene and an Aston Martin for Robert.
Jolene’s bridesmaids wore gowns purchased from ASOS, while the groomsmen donned suits from Next Retail.
Gate Street Barn set the scene for the magical winter wedding. “Open fires, sparklers, toasted marshmallows and a cosy reception sounded perfect to us.”
