Promises of getting fit and meeting new people brought Catherine Hardie and Simon Tuohy together.
“We had both joined the fitness phenomenon British Military Fitness,” explains 35-year-old Catherine. “We didn’t get particularly fit but did meet each other — albeit in the pub at the social rather than while actually doing any exercise,” she laughs.
The teacher and university researcher bought a home together four years later and in that home, Simon proposed. Catherine says their farm wedding nine months later on August 1, 2015 was more perfect than they could have imagined. “Having rained torrentially in the week leading up to the day, I had purchased ‘wedding wellies’ in case of emergencies,” she explains. “On the day, however, the sun shone and we were able to show off the countryside in all its glory.”
They chose Church of St Michael and All Angels in Alwinton for the ceremony and set up a marquee on their parent’s farm in Northumberland for the reception. “We wanted a relaxed rural wedding with good quality food and drink,” describes Catherine. “Neither of us felt comfortable with a fancy hotel reception. Instead, we had a barbecue, hay bales, Jenga, corn-hole and a fire pit.”

Catherine’s elegant lace gown was found at Bridal Box Ltd.
Beautiful floral arrangements reflected the rural nature of the wedding.
The bride’s Cinderella slipper-style shoes were from Pink Paradox London.
“I honestly don’t think we stopped smiling all day and I only wish we could do it all again,” smiles Catherine.
