Fern and Nick host simple classic wedding in family home

After meeting at Fern’s family business and trying for weeks to take her out, Nick finally took Fern on a romantic first date – quad biking followed by rally driving.

Fern, now 24, says that’s when she realised Nick was a car enthusiast.

The Tauton pair announced their engagement following a simple proposal at home. “Nick asked my father’s permission,” Fern recalls. “He told me I looked beautiful and got on one knee. Nothing fancy but I knew it was right.”

On September 2, 2017 Fern and Nick, 32, exchanged vows at their simple classic wedding in North Curry, Tauton among with 140 family and friends as witnesses. The party then kicked on at Fern’s family home, about which Fern says ” This meant we could have our wedding exactly as we wanted it.”

The pair’s wedding priorities laid with making sure everyone enjoyed themselves. “We got married at 3PM so that people weren’t hanging around, and had a child-free day so mums and dads could have an evening off.”

Guests were treated to a free bar and a shuttle service after the reception to ensure they could let their hair down and abandon any worries for the night.

For others planning a home wedding, Fern says “Completely and utterly own it. Also, plan as early as possible – the more organised you are the more you enjoy the count down.”

Fern’s gorgeous bespoke gown was able to be changed for the evening. “It was designed with a detachable jacket with beautiful long sleeves which I took off for the reception. People thought I had two dresses!”

A nod to their Scottish heritage, a traditional Scottish Piper provided the ceremony music.

Fern and Nick wed at the Cathedral of the Moors in North Curry, Somerset.

The pair hired a jazz band to play while guests enjoyed welcoming drinks before the reception.

With a family catering business, it only made sense that Fern and her father design the menu for the day.

After the celebration was said and done, Fern and Nick jetted off to their romantic tropical honeymoon Kuoni, Bali the very next day.
