When Adelaide pair Laura Mitchell and Ashley Thompson married, it was not only about their union, but the coming together of their two young families.
“The day was not about the decorations, the cars, the venue or the entertainment – it was about four becoming one,” Laura, 30, says.
After Ashley, 34, and his daughter Madeleine asked Laura’s father for permission, Ashley proposed in an elegant Adelaide venue.
The pair wed at Bethany Lutheran church in South Australia’s Barossa Valley on October 25, 2014 in front of 130 friends and family.
Their farm wedding reception followed at the Maggie Beer Farm & Function Centre in Nurioopta, where fine food was of course a feature.
“Our wedding was simple, elegant and most importantly honest,” Laura says.
Ashley’s daughter Madeleine, 10, and Laura’s son Callum, one, were an integral part of the celebrations.
“The day was all about the four of us celebrating just how we had made our blended family work successfully.”
Laura’s advice to future brides is simple: “Take a moment to have a breath and just sit at the bridal table and look around at all the loved ones all there to celebrate your day”.
Uniting their two young families was an important focus of the day. “It was about four becoming one,” Laura says.
The gorgeous Maggie Beer Farm provided the perfect backdrop for the pair’s rustic wedding.
