Ellie and Sean’s romantic autumnal celebration at Town Head Estate

Many couples we see are drawn to the Lake District for its rugged romance, but for Ellie and Sean, the appeal was personal.

As avid cyclists who got engaged in the Dolomites, the couple wanted a day that reflected their love for the outdoors while maintaining an elegant, relaxed atmosphere. On 10 October 2024, they brought 75 of their closest friends and family to Town Head Estate in Newby Bridge for a celebration defined by warm autumnal tones and seamless coordination.

Choosing Town Head Estate was a matter of intuition for the couple, who were looking for a location where they could easily visualise their loved ones gathered together. The estate delivered on every front, from the spectacular gardens to the high quality on-site accommodation. Ellie was particularly impressed with the setting, noting:

"Town Head Estate was perfect, the views and gardens are spectacular, the barn is a lovely environment and space to be in and a bonus was the on-site accommodation. It was very very nicely done up".

The barn was meticulously prepared for the ceremony, with lanterns lining the aisle to create a super cosy atmosphere for their guests. Following the vows, the celebration moved to the conservatory for a covered drinks reception while a brief rain shower passed, before the sun emerged for confetti in the courtyard area.

The day’s success was largely due to the seamless flow managed by the venue team. Ellie praised the amazingly organised staff at Town Head, noting that one thing flowed into the next with ease. She worked closely with Tanya at Town Head, who she described as fantastic and very experienced, which helped her feel relaxed throughout the process. For photos, the couple ventured down to the waterfront and the boat house, taking advantage of the Lake District’s incredible autumnal colours and the estate’s spectacular gardens.

Food was a significant highlight, with catering provided by Karen Rhodes. The menu featured broccoli and Stilton soup, slow-cooked beef with dauphinoise potatoes, and a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake. As a coeliac, Ellie found the caterer’s flexibility invaluable. She would recommend Karen Rhodes to all other couples as the food was incredible and the team was super helpful with altering menus to suit her dietary needs. This thoughtful approach extended to the cake from Sponge.com, which consisted of six different gluten-free flavours.

The aesthetic of the day remained true to the couple’s relaxed and romantic vision. The wedding party wore autumnal tones, with bridesmaids in emerald green gowns from Six Stories to match the season. Florals by Bluebell and Ivy were filled with seasonal varieties, including roses, while Emma Jane Events added finishing touches with fairy lights, drapes, and lanterns throughout the barn. From the live strings of What The Pluck to the evening set by DJ Craig Howarth, the day was a perfect reflection of Ellie and Sean’s style.
