“It's like you've got your own gang that nobody else is allowed in.”
That is how bride Amy Grindrod describes marriage after saying “I will” to her beau Sam Lyons on May 8, 2015. “After the wedding day, you think life will go back to normal, how it was before. It doesn't. You're married and it's different,” the 29-year-old says of life with her 26-year-old groom.
The pair married with a modern rustic wedding at Bury Parish Church followed by a reception at Rivington Hall Barn in Lancashire. They met as teenagers – Sam was Amy’s younger brother’s best friend. “It was a little awkward at first but now the three of us are best friends,” she says.
For a long time, the pair harboured secret feelings for one another. “It took almost seven years before we actually got drunk enough to declare our love for each other,“ laughs Amy.
Amy had been checking six different weather apps daily in the lead up to her wedding day – but no amount of weather stalking could prevent the rain that came. “The rain started and never stopped – although we got a little wet, we wouldn't have changed it for the world,” she explains. Every cloud has its silver lining after all. “The photos we got in the rain at night are like something from a fairy tale.”

Amy's parents were married in the same church 32 years prior and even had a 25-year vow renewal there too.
Amy's stunning ruffled gown - protected from the rain! - was an Essense of Australia design from Ava Rose Hamilton Bridal Couture.
Rivington Hall Barn was the perfect location to entertain the couple's 120 guests.
