And the bride wore purple: Jojo and Andy’s steampunk wedding

The traditional white wedding was never Jodi Driver and Andy Roscow’s style.

While Andy would have been happy with a casual registry office ‘do, flamboyant Jojo had something else in mind. Gaining inspiration from a blog, the unconventional bride settled on a neo-Victorian, or steampunk wedding.

“I’ve always been alternative and I love a dress up so this was the only way forward. We also thought that if everyone had to dress up, that they would feel much more like part of our day, rather than just being onlookers and well-wishers,” Jojo explains.

The couple wed at Kent’s Nettlestead Place on August 16, 2014. Jojo rolled up in fine style in a friend’s classic hot rod, wearing a purple net skirt, corset and biker boots.

The bride and her mum styled much of the wedding themselves, from invitations to table centrepieces, jewellery and cuffs. “Basically anything that we could make we did,” Jojo says.

She adds, “Most props and decor for the marquee reception was provided by mum and I, collecting things over the two years we planned the wedding. We covered screens, bought a really old typewriter and fixed it up to work. The post box was made by me. The Victorian bottles on the tables were all sourced by me, filled and labeled by me, too!”

Fire-eating and stilt -walking was among the entertainment at the reception, but Jojo says the highlight was spending the day with their nearest and dearest.

“Apart from marrying the love of my life, my favorite bit was getting all our friends and family in one place at one time,” she says.

Festive blooms in Jojo’s wedding bouquet tied in nicely with the purple colour theme.

Unique wedding transport, supplied by a friend, ensured the bride and groom travelled in style.

Bride Jojo describes one of the highlights was having all their guests also suitably dressed up, it made them much more part of the day, she says.

The couple’s love of cheese shone through in their choice of wedding cake.
