12 guests accompanied Shrewsbury couple Michaela and Ben to Rome for their Italian vintage wedding held on August 31, 2018.
“Given we were on a small budget, a close family wedding sounded perfect,” says the bride, 29. “And where better to have the most memorable day and time of our lives than in beautiful Roma.”
Given their 5pm ceremony time, Michaela enjoyed a relaxing breakfast with her mother and later joined her mother-in-law and bridesmaids to get ready at their leisure.
Michaela and Ben, 26, tied the knot with the help of an English translator at their traditional Italian ceremony at Red Hall in Campidoglio.
The newlyweds then bundled into their tiny wedding car and embarked on a tour of Rome, capturing their wedding photos at popular tourist destinations, before later joining their guests at Antica Pesa for food, speeches and drinks.
“Our wedding wasn’t huge, flashy or trying to impress,” says Michaela. “Instead it was intimate, personal, emotional, hilarious, full of love and totally perfect.”

Wedding guests showered the newlyweds with dried rose petals from Michaela’s parents’ garden.
“We literally stopped traffic with people stopping their cars to photograph us!”
