The Garden Museum is an unsuspecting yet delightful mix of old and new. What was once a pre-17th century church due for demolition, was reborn as a museum in the late 1970s, dedicated to the art, history, and design of gardens.

Situated on the banks of River Thames in Lambeth and with unrivalled views out over the Houses of Parliament, the Garden Museum is now home to two event spaces, The Nave and The Sackler Garden. The original church and main event space, The Nave, is a traditional Grade II* listed medieval tower with soaring pillars, vaulted ceilings and glorious stained-glass windows. A simple staircase runs down one side of the room, which makes a grand entrance for the couple as they descend to dine with their guests.

Original stone bricks ground the cavernous space inside the church and fairy lights can be crisscrossed overhead to illuminate divine stained-glass features and towering columns. The Nave is a truly versatile space in terms of the styles that complement it, and it’s natural aisle is often selected for fashion shows alongside weddings.

The modern addition to the Garden Museum and a key deciding factor for most couples is The Sackler Garden. The adjoining outdoor space is filled with tropical plants and leafy trees ensconced by a cloister fashioned from glass and bronze, curated by award-winning garden designer, Dan Pearson. The contrast between the contemporary structure and the exquisite historical architecture is striking, making for an outstanding location to host a pre-dinner drinks reception for 120 guests, or a very intimate alfresco dinner for 30 guests.

The Garden Museum is a unique and surprising wedding venue, ingeniously marrying the past with the present and creating a one-of-a-kind location for your wedding day.

The Garden Museum is a haven of tranquillity. The Victorian Church building and the cloister garden are atmospheric and peaceful. Recent renovations have improved the experience whilst the character and history of the building have been retained. Views from the medieval tower are spectacular.

Situated next door to Lambeth Palace on the South Bank of the Thames in an old church (St Mary at Lambeth), it is a beautiful building and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book and the oldest building in Lambeth. One of London's hidden atmospheric gems!
