The grandeur of Drapers’ Hall in the City of London can be felt as soon as one steps through the heavy copper doors and into the large oak panelled entrance hall. From here, a majestic staircase rises up to the main venue spaces. Fashioned from marble and featuring an Italian carved alabaster balustrade beneath a glorious stained-glass window, the staircase creates an exquisite backdrop for photographs of the newly married couple.
Out of the four rooms, the Court Dining Room is the oldest. With peachy coral walls, glittering crystal chandeliers and intricately detailed carvings on the ceiling accented by blue and gold, this room is by far the prettiest and most feminine setting in the venue. It is perfectly suited to post ceremony drinks receptions or dinners for 96 guests. The Drawing Room is equally wonderful in cool tones of mint, with towering windows and multiple mirrors reflecting natural light into the room. Here, one can host drinks receptions of up to 120 guests below the high ceilings and delicate Victorian crystal chandeliers.
The largest and grandest room at Drapers’ Hall is the Livery Hall. Heavy wood panelling is framed by twenty-eight looming marble columns, each one strategically illuminated by uplighters for maximum effect. A golden gallery borders the room and is topped off by violet and gold arches before reaching the magnificent painted ceiling. The Livery Hall’s dining furniture includes rail back chairs, the perfect addition to a traditional wedding dinner.
Lastly, The Court Room is an intimate wood panelled room with large 18th century chandeliers and two silk tapestries lit up by tall windows. This space is best suited to drinks reception or cosy dinners for 60 guests. The Court Room overlooks the picturesque garden courtyard, orchard of mulberry trees and a quaint trickling fountain. Guests can enjoy drinks in the courtyard itself during the warm summer months.
Overall, every room in Drapers’ Hall boasts a distinct splendour and hints to the luxurious events that they’ve hosted throughout the venue’s history. One can easily imagine a lavish wedding celebration taking place in the age old architecture of this magnificent London building.
