Chalk Farm Hotel

Chalk Farm Hotel is a small friendly hotel in a historic 17th Century building, located in Old Willingdon Village, near Eastbourne.

The beautiful village of Willingdon is located just over two miles from the heart of Eastbourne with the main focal point of the village being St. Mary’s Church and Chalk Farm.

Chalk Farm and the surrounding fields are said to have been used for primitive farming back as far as the Saxon era. The site where the hotel stands today was once a Priory which we are told was connected with The Benedictine Abbey of Grestein near Honfleur and once owned by Robert de Norton, the 1st Norman Lord of Pevensey and surrounding manors and half brother to William the Conqueror.

In approximately 1610 a farmhouse, now The Inglenook Restaurant, was built out of the remains of the Priory chapel. In around 1920 a new farmhouse was built 50 metres to the north of the hotel and the old farmhouse was converted into the hotel as it is today.
