Founding member Ada Ellis originally created bespoke designs from her London studio to cater for her fashionable friends, and on a bright January day in 1910 she walked down the aisle wearing the first Ellis wedding dress.
Ada already held an accomplished reputation as a designer and seamstress for the London aristocracy of the day, but with her wedding dress she truly began to carve her niche. Demand grew as brides across England clamoured for an original Ellis creation. Her business was born, and Ada moved to new, bigger premises. By the 1960s she had opened her first central London showroom with an extravagant runway show, cementing Ellis as a househould name. Through the 1980's the brand celebrated numerous industry and retailer awards acknowledging Ellis's pioneering vision for leading trends in bridalwear.
This rich heritage constantly informs the Ellis practice for meticulous attention to detail.
