Let the music play…

Our wedding music was one of the hardest decisions we had to make – well it was for me! Craig picked our first dance song – Summertime, the Janis Joplin version; it is the first song we danced to.

The rest he left up to me – which was handy for him! So for the past year I have been going through both of our music libraries, looking at the choices the forum girls have made and even went to our Brides Guides for inspiration.

Craig and I love our music, it’s been a passion since we were kids and just between you and me there have been a few sing-a-longs to Glee. Finding the perfect songs for the ceremony was going to take forever!

In the beginning I chose songs that I thought captured the emotion of the day and how we felt about each other – then I’d hear something on the radio and change my mind. When I first heard Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colby Caillat – I thought I had finally found our processional song – and then the shine faded a little and it was put into the maybe pile. We both also love Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, but it felt like everyone was using it!

Now there are some amazing songs out there and trying to pin point three of them to use in our processional (walking down the aisle), register signing and recessional (walking back down the aisle together), seemed impossible I was ready to create a mash up!

Then one lazy Saturday morning I was listening to music on my laptop – I loved Rolling in the Deep by Adele and wanted to hear more from the album. While going through her album I found it – the music was beautiful, the lyrics were perfect and I couldn’t help but smile when I heard it.  I played it for Craig and we both love it, so I have my processional song sorted.

I came across our register signing song as we were watching SBS one night – yes we are party animals, thank you for asking – it was a documentary on the life of Bob Marley. They played snippets of his songs through the doco and when the credits started rolling  Craig and I both started smiling – the song was laid back, catchy and fun. So that’s another tick!

All that was left was the recessional music. At this point I opened up YouTube, and mashed the keyboard, just to see what came up – sort of a techno version of pulling a name out of a hat. Give it a go – YouTube has an answer for any mash you can come up with!

So after 5 minutes of that I got bored and gave up. I decided to go through all my CD’s – they are these shiny discs that store data – and went through all the mixed discs that I have been putting together over the years. When a particular song started playing I was shaking my head – I had been watching the movie it was from the weekend before and I hadn’t occurred to me to use it as a wedding song!

One more thing off my list.
