It took property developer Rowan Pollard less than a year to know that Kate Bremner, a marketing professional was ‘the one’. After just nine months of meeting, he proposed whilst on a “magical” overseas holiday to Dubai, Paris and the Maldives.
It took Kate the same amount of time to plan their sophisticated Parisian wedding. Having done an exchange to France when she was 18, she has a strong connection to the country. She explains, “All of the invitations, place cards, thank you cards and ceremony program continued with the French theme. I even did part of my speech in French!”
Kate was especially moved that that her French host mother and partner could attend the wedding. “Even though they didn’t understand much of the speeches, we were so touched that they could be there to share our special day,” says Kate.
To maintain the momentum of the day, the pair had a pre-ceremony photo shoot in the Melbourne CBD. “This also meant we had a more intimate meeting or first-look together with our bridal party and family,” says Kate. Their afternoon nuptials were held afterwards at the magnificent Dome function room on Collins Street, Melbourne.
Having learned the violin as a child, Kate commissioned string trio Kendra Bousfield, Christina Taplin and Alyssa Kennedy to play their ceremony music. “Kendra was my violin teacher when I was growing up, so a lovely personal touch,” says Kate. Songs played were “Pachelbel’s Canon’ and ‘The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba’.
The bride chose the stunning Cleopatra, a fitted wedding gown by Gwendolynne, which featured decadent silver beading across the straps and back shoulder line; accessorised with a Richard Nylon chapel-length veil and hair piece. Her shoes were by Gary Castles and the bridesmaids wore custom made, elegant short-sleeve dresses lace in navy.
The groom and groomsmen had matching classic black two-button suits with satin-edge lapels and black slim ties by Prinzi Collections.
The couple chose award-winning eatery Comme for its modern French menu, which the bride describes as “spectacular”. Guests enjoyed dishes such as chilli quail, grain fed beef eye fillet and chocolate fondant.
The wedding had “a huge party atmosphere”, with a “sax player who played with the DJ for an hour from the start of our bridal dance,” says Kate.
When asked her advice for other brides-to-be, Kate says, “The bride and groom really set the tone of the wedding so it is important to relax and have fun with all your family and friends. It really is the best day of your life.”
