Be it a wedding or a baby shower, what’s the point of throwing a party if it’s not fabulous and fun, right?
The thing is, not all of us are creative or organised enough to throw a basic party, let alone a fabulous and fun one – but we can be – with a little help.
The Party Book, by Kathryn Porritt, founder of online party shop PinkFrosting, is jam-packed with hundreds of tips and tricks for planning everything from a kids’ party or dinner party to, yes, even a grand old wedding.
Kathryn, who has planned hundreds of weddings and other events for many years before starting PinkFrosting in December 2006, has put her many years’ experience into this gorgeously-photographed, 215-page party planning book and, in it. she steps readers through the basics of planning any type of party, big or small.
“Don’t be frightened about planning a party,” says Kathryn who took more than 12 months to put the book together.
“If you think about it, basically all events are the same. Every party starts with some sort of inspiration and a list of what needs to be done within a certain budget.
“That formula applies to a wedding of 300 people or a kids party for 10. Only the scale is different.”
Kathryn’s vibrantly decorated book contains hundreds of ideas and starts at the very beginning, walking readers through the many ways to come up with stylish and affordable party ideas and inspiration. It then shows readers how to plan the actual event, then explains how to put your party’s budget together and, ultimately, explains how to make it an enjoyable event.
There are recipes galore, including a whole chapter containing instructions for making Kathryn’s top 10 party drinks and dishes, which include a mouth-watering seared sesame tuna and as well as Sangria, which you can wash it down with.
When it comes to planning your big day, The Party Book’s highlights includes a sample wedding day rundown explaining the sequence of events at a typical wedding; advice on what to do if it rains on your wedding day and guidance around setting your wedding budget.
“As long as your guests come away feeling terrific and having had a fun time, then you’ve achieved the aim of a pulling off a great celebrations and a memorable event.”
